Conscience of the society- NGO- our concept of true freedom under Democracy

Under the rule of Kings the citizens were not in chains, nor they were denied freedom to speak, wear the cloth they wish to wear or to eat the food they desired. But the role of a subject was defined clearly by custom - - -no one was allowed to cross such invisible barriers. In short what was lacking for man was his 'freedom to be himself '. He was merely a property of the King - -his life, his possessions, everything belonged to the King. Nothing for himself. He was no one in himself.

In Democracy man was expected to define himself the way he wants, and be free to become what he wants to be. Let us see a brief history of his attempts in the direction of attainment of full freedom.
Mankind for the first time in his history could courageously bring forth a change to this sad situation under the rule of Kings in year 1215 by the great MAGNA CARTA declaration( meaning the great charter) Though it was a charter documenting a Kings relation with his subjects, that also demanded and executed by the Nobles for themselves, it could clearly identify and define man's certain rights so far un-heard before! To make the king agree to the charter, the nobles had to even raise an army to fight the King, hence it was under duress that King agreed to sign. First time in history, man heard concepts like 'no freeman shall be imprisoned…exiled . .or in anyway have force used against him, except by lawful judgment of his equals' etc.

This mile-stone in the history of human freedom has inspired and even paved way for the further declarations of man's freedom in the 'Bill of rights' in the American constitution in 1776 and also in the 'Declaration of the rights of man' during French revolution in 1798. Mankind could hear again magical words on his freedom in the Bill of Rights . '.We hold these truths to be self-evident that all men are created equal and they are endowed by their creator with certain inalienable rights…such as Life, Liberty and pursuit of happiness'

No doubt now exist about the degree of freedom under democracy - - - .it is simply man's freedom to be 'himself' . .it is not a right any state has to deliver him, but state is the mechanism constituted by men themselves to ensure this freedom not to be taken away or curtailed by any agency within the state, or any one person from the other. It is the fundamental and also the ultimate of all the freedom a man can have and it should be the one and only goal of a true democracy. Every man's conscience strive for its true freedom
